KIAMA GIRLS SOCCER BEATEN
IN HISTORIC FIRST GAME
The Kiama Quarriers ladies side played their first ever game last Sunday at
the Kiama Leisure Centre in front of an interested crowd. The team has only been recently formed and had never played a full game until this occasion against Shellharbour Ladies Soccer Team. In a top display the girls were beaten 3 – 2 against a good quality opponent.
The girls played extremely well in this game with some of them having never played a competitive match before. Their
historic first goal was scored early in the game by Nicole Petit before Shellharbour pulled them back and eventually went ahead late in the game. Kiama’s second goal was scored by Danielle Jovanov.
Kiama were well served by Michelle Richardson in goals who pulled off a stunning save from twelve metres to push a hard drive over the bar. Haley
Beringer in the midfield also had a strong game as did Danielle Jovanov who is an absolute demon tackler. She was
in everything and may well find herself with the nickname “Psycho”, for all the right reasons. Mel Carlson was
also outstanding and probably the best player on the park for Kiama.
Next Sunday the girls play their first “Official” game in the Bonny Lassie Cup at Barrack Heights Oval. The Cup is a round robin competition and kicks off at 8.30am.
Any person who is interested in helping out with the coaching of the girls is invited to contact Larry Beringer at Kiama Sports and Leisure Wear on 42 332330.
