Youth Grade battle against Uni

The Kiama Sports & Leisure Wear, Gordon MacDonald Electrical Youth Team battled hard but couldn't take the points against University. The visitors were much bigger, stronger & more mobile than the Quarriers but Uni didn't count on the never say die attitude of the Kiama boys.

Uni had Kiama on the back foot from the kick off as they launched attacks on the scrambling Kiama defence. Many good saves by keeper James Terry & the versatile Jai Carwright in defence kept the opposition at bay.

A good passing move between strikers Mathews & Costello into the Uni half brought Scott Schofield into the game and his well timed volley took a deflection onto the crossbar. This was the closest Kiama came to scoring and showed what can be achieved with teamwork.

The second half again saw Uni pepper the Kiama goal but excellent defence and positioning by Dave

" How many times can the ball hit me " Kay kept the score even.

The Quarriers didn't give up but in the dieing minutes a desperate but clumsy tackle brought down a Uni midfielder in the box. Uni converted the penalty & took the points with a 1-0 win.

This was not a convincing game by the Kiama boys but they showed great character and never gave up. Providing they are all prepared to keep putting the effort in, continued hard work will see this team achieve their potential.
