QUARRIER GIRLS DOWN IN SEASONS OPENER.
Last Sunday the Kiama Quarriers Ladies Team played their opening game in the Illawarra Ladies Soccer Competition. The
girls played Shoalhaven S.C. and were on the wrong end of a belting going down 7 – 0.
Incredibly, this is the girl’s first game of the season. They have had matches washed out and had a bye
and not played a game for five weeks. It is no wonder the girls didn’t play to their potential.
Shoalhaven came into the game with a very experienced side and some of the goals they scored would not be out of place in the men’s game. They led 4 – 0 at half time and the Quarrier girls, many playing their first competition game ever, were probably a
little outclassed, but matched it for keenness and drive.
The Quarriers played well in patches but found it hard to overcome an opponent that had years of experience under their belts.
Best for Kiama were Cassie Dutton and goalkeeper Michelle Richardson while the Kiama Leagues Club Player of the Match was sweeper Nicole Pettit. Nicole played extremely well and did her best to hold her side together with good organizing and advice to the newer
players. Some of her covering tackles were off the top shelf and she was a standout for the home side.
Kiama play their next game on Sunday at McClelland Park, Kembla Grange against Kemblawarra. Kick off is at
9.30am and all supporters are welcome.
