Another win for the kids

The Gordon Macdonald Electrical Youth team took the unusual pre match preparation of the team bus breaking down in their stride when they took on Helensburgh. The Quarriers settled into the game well with the back three of Craig Lord, Paul Thayer and Brad Tuohy keeping the Helensburgh attack under control. Keeper James Terry didn't have much to do in the early stages and his clearing kicks had the 'burgh defenders back-pedalling.

Craig Costello got himself back on the scoreboard after a well timed pass from Jai Cartwright put him through and he beat the keeper with great style and the Kiama team were up 1 - 0. Shortly before half time Lord performed a well executed double forward roll with pike over the rear perimeter fence after receiving a helpful shove from the opposition striker. Lord received a 9.95 from the scorers and the opposition player received a red card from the referee.

The second half started with Kiama pressing forward but the Helensburgh boys lifted and played smart football which caught Kiama by surprise. The Quarriers soon sorted themselves out and Matt Gallagher in the middle of the park and Brad Tuohy in defence showed the way forward for the visitors. Midfielders Kay, Schofield and replacements Crighton and Dragon were too strong for their opposite numbers. Jai Cartwright revelled in the extra space and possession the Kiama team worked to get and maintain. He soon found himself on the scoresheet week after excellent work from strikers Costello and James Spence set up a long range shot which was too hot for the opposition keeper.

Cartwright bagged his double for the second week running after a good cross from Chris Hughes found him on the far post to seal the game 3 - 0 for the Quarriers.
