GOOD EFFORT BY YOUTH GRADE
Kiama backed up on Sunday after the Albion Park game to play Premier League Youth team Lysaghts in the second round of the Youth Cup. The Quarriers fielded a strong team including regular First Graders Brad Boardman and Luke Bedford.
The well drilled Lysaghts team kept Kiama on the back foot for most of the match. Despite this Kiama battled hard and made many good breaks into the opposition third of the field.
Lysaghts took the lead when Kiama failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to the Lysaghts striker who blasted the ball into the top corner of the goal giving keeper James Terry no chance.
The second half saw Boardman push forward more often. The best chance for Kiama came after a bustling run down the left wing and a great cross into the box by Boardman was met by Bedford. Unfortunately for the boys his header hit the cross bar and the equaliser went begging.
Late in the second half a misdirected cross by Lysaghts sailed into the far post of the Kiama goal to give them a 2 -0 win. The Gordon Macdonald Electrical Kiama team gave their all but couldn't match it with the opposition. Plenty of determination was shown by the boys and the experience will help them during the rest of the League competition.
